The SanDisk X400 was the slowest drive tested in terms of web serving, although the Crucial BX200 drives had similar numbers at various stages of the test. SSD is a very fast storage solution that surpasses mechanical hard drives in all aspects, and PlayStation 4 should feel a performance boost when an SSD is added to it. Moreover, Samsung told me that the endurance figure is mainly meant to separate the 850 Pro from the enterprise drives to guide enterprise clients to the more appropriate (and expensive) drives as the 850 Pro does not have power loss protection or end-to-end data protection for example.
What determines the best SSD for PS4
In my testing, I found no reason why you shouldn’t use Rapid mode. So, how do the drives actually perform in our SSD testing? The controller is made by Marvell, model number 88SS1074.

Loading PS4 games faster
Keep in mind that the NVMe drives, while notably faster in some benchmarks, are also far more expensive per GB. Furthermore, the 512MB DDR3L-1600 Micron DRAM package provides a cache space for the controller. Ordinary and expected flash price reductions are not enough to get us there. If not, then a 4TB hard drive is a good option for PS4 if you’re someone who needs a huge storage space on their PS4 internal storage device. The last profile looks at workstation activity, with a 20% write and 80% read mixture using 8K transfers. Another interesting aspect of V-NAND is its odd capacity per die.
The SSD 850 Evo for example, costs just around 33 cents per gigabyte. There are two key takeaways here. SSD testing at TSSDR differs slightly, depending on whether we are looking at consumer or enterprise SSDs. If we want to push solid-state storage into lower-end systems, the expensive DRAM has to go. The SanDisk X400 exhibited numbers that are consistent with its performance in most of the other benchmarks.
Traditionally NAND capacies have come in powers of two, such as 64Gbit and 128Gbit, but with V-NAND Samsung is putting an end to that trend. Note that when buying SSDs, the higher the capacity, the less cost per gigabyte.
