Downloading the EVA 8000 Recovery Tool:

Click here to download the US version of the recovery tool.

Click here to download the UK version of the recovery tool.

NOTE:  You will need a Windows operating system to use this tool.

When You Should Use The Recovery Tool:

There are several instances when you should use the EVA8000 recovery tool to try to and recovery a failed unit:

1. Screen freezes on booting at the “Powering Up…” screen as shown below

2. A firmware update fails and unit will no longer fully boot

3. After a firmware update the unit continuously reboots

4. Power light is on but no video,  even though TV inputs are set correctly

5. No power light comes on (possibly corrupted firmware)

Requirements:

1. A Windows XP or a Windows Vista PC

2. A router or switch to connect to the EVA8000 and PC

3. The TFTP boot recovery tool (http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/d103279.asp ) unzipped to a location on the PC

Recovery Procedure:

Ensure that the Windows firewall or equivalent desktop firewall is disabled before performing these steps:

1. Connect the EVA8000 using an Ethernet cable and the host Windows PC to a switch or router. Do not plug the EVA8000 power cord into the unit at this time.

2. Configure the host Windows PC to have a static IP address of 10.23.23.200.

3. Execute the TFTPD32 program. The Server Interfaces field should show 10.23.23.200. If it does not, perform step 2 again.  See images below for correct/incorrect procedure.

4. Using the end of a paperclip or tip of a pin, depress the "reset" button on the back of the EVA8000.

5. While keeping the "reset" button depressed, power on the EVA8000 by plugging in its power cord.

!!WARNING: DO NOT POWER DOWN WHILE THE RECOVERY PROCESS IS IN PROGRESS!!

6. Release the reset button when the front power LED starts to blink. The LED will stay on steady indicating the start of the recovery process. The TFTPD32 window on the host Windows PC should show that the eva-recovery-image.bin file is getting uploaded to the unit.

NOTE: If the TFTPD32 host windows PC does not show any activity, check the network connection of the host PC and the EVA8000 to the switch or the router and repeat these steps. Rarely, the EVA8000's Ethernet port may fail to initialize. This can be resolved by powering down the unit for about 30 seconds by unplugging its power cord.

The recovery process should take no more than 4 minutes. The front LED will blink rapidly when the recovery process is completed. Once the recovery process is completed the EVA8000 will reboot and the onscreen Setup Wizard will begin.

NOTE: Remember to change your PC IP address back to its original settings after running the recovery procedure.
