How To Use WNDR3700 Wireless-N Gigabit Router and EVA2000 with ReadyDLNA Media Server

We now have 2 great NETGEAR products which form the perfect partnership.  They are the Ultimate Networking Machine (WNDR3700) and the Digital Entertainer Live (EVA2000).  Since the EVA2000 uses DLNA to access content in the home, the ReadyDLNA feature on the WNDR3700 is the perfect match.

ReadyDLNA (called Media Server in the GUI) expands the already feature rich ReadyShare (called USB Storage in the GUI) on the WNDR3700 by presenting your USB storage using the industry standard DLNA.

Enabling the ReadyDLNA Media Server

Here are the steps:

  1. With your WNDR3700 powered on, connect your USB drive to the USB port (located on the rear).  If your USB drive needs external power, then power up the USB drive after connecting it to the WNDR3700.
  2. Wait approximately 5 minutes, depending on the amount of media on your USB drive; this is to allow the WNDR3700 to create a library of the media files to be presented by the Media Server.
  3. You can either use the Plug and Play settings for the USB Drive, or access the WNDR3700 user interface (www.routerlogin.com.)  Here, you can change the options for the USB Storage and Media Server.

Changing Media Server Options

Some of the Media Server options you can change are:

  • Enable/disable the Media Server, by default its enabled
  • Change the Media Server Name, by default this will be listed as ReadyDLNA : WNDR3700 on your EVA2000
  • Change content scan options, this enabled the WNDR3700 to dynamically update the library of files being used by the Media server when files are saved or deleted using the USB Storage feature

Note : When your USB storage is not connected, the Media Server feature automatically disables itself.

On your EVA2000, once it has started up and has a network connection, browse to "My Collection" => "Home Network"

If the WNDR3700 is the only DLNA enabled media server in your network, then you will see ReadyDLNA : WNDR3700 highlighted (if not then selected 'Content Sources' and then select ReadyDLNA : WNDR3700.

Now you have access to your media, simply 'Browse Folders' and you will see the folders on your USB Drive which contain the media files.

Just browse, click and watch your videos from the comfort of your sofa!
