Setting up NETGEAR EVA2000 over Wireless-N with EVAW111 Adapter
Categories: Installation & Setup (EVA2000) Networking
My main Internet pipeline just happens to be next to my entertainment center, but I'm guessing I'm in the minority. Most of us have our wireless routers in the basement, the office, or elsewhere in the home - leaving the entertainment center without a high speed wired connection. Of course, this wasn't a great big deal back in the day, but with the age of Internet connected devices upon us, it simply won't do - and the EVA2000 is no exception.
Solve your wireless woes easily with the EVAW111. NETGEAR did everyone a favor by keeping this Wireless-N adapter low cost (compared to other solutions such as Powerline) and easy to install with a streamlined process. Let's see how.
Note: To get the best speed from this adapter, I would highly recommend that your router is based on the Wireless-N standard.
Unboxing the EVAW111
Removing this clever little dongle from its packaging confines is a simple affair; there really isn't much to it.
Inside the box you will discover a USB adapter with a stiff cable (more on this later,) the adapter itself, and in installation CD with instructions. You really won't need the CD, though, for this tutorial. I didn't even open it!
Connecting the EVAW111
Once again, connecting this baby is pretty easy. Make sure your device is disconnected from power, and simply jam it in the back of your EVA2000, in one of the USB ports.
Here's where the nifty adapter cable comes it. Note the stiffness of the cable; it allows you to place the wireless adapter in its "optimum" position. It's optional, of course, but it's a nice way to keep the adapter out of the way, assuming you have another USB device connected or are planning to do so.
Setting Up Your Wireless Connection
Almost there! Now, power on your EVA2000. It will go through the standard booting procedure, with the exception that it will pop up with a prompt informing you that a wired connection is not available... and whether you would like to set up a wireless connection, given that you have connected the EVAW111. Of course, click "Yes" with your remote.
Now, you'll be presented with a list of wireless networks that are available. Select your network and enter the encryption code, if applicable.
It will go through the motions of connecting to your wireless network and testing the available thoroughput speed. Once it's complete, you're all set! Watch the wireless indicator in the lower right hand of the screen for your signal strength.
