Review and Unboxing of NETGEAR Digital Entertainer Express (EVA9100) (Page 1 of 2)
Categories: Installation & Setup (EVA9150 & 9100)
Researching options for a new digital media streamer for your home? You may have already come across the NETGEAR Digital Entertainer Elite, or EVA9150 - an ideal solution for those who need onboard storage and more advanced features.
However, with the new Digital Entertainer Express (EVA9100) you can have your cake and eat it too. While lacking some of the more advanced features of the Elite, the Digital Entertainer Express delivers the same powerful media streaming abilities... for a much lower price.
The three main differences between the EVA9100 and EVA9150 are:
- No included hard drive or hard drive bay
- Wireless connectivity is not built in (but can be added)
- Different remote control
Unboxing the Digital Entertainer Express
The box for the EVA9100 is very similar to the box for the EVA9150, and for good reason - they are very close siblings.
You won't have a lot of extra packaging to deal with here; only nicely laid out foam holders securing the unit.
The EVA9100 is packaged with an installation CD, the remote with batteries, power cord, standard video cables, and an Ethernet network cable. (Note that no HDMI cable is included.)
The remote is basically the same as the EVA8000 - less intuitive than the remote for the EVA9150, but it is functional.
Let's get it set up!
