When I fast forward with my EVA8000, it moves faster the more times I click the fast forward button, just like I would expect.  2x, 3x, 4x, or something like that (I don't know the exact specs).

But when I rewind, it moves backward at like 10 billion times speed, even with one click.  In fact, the last time I tried to rewind, I reset halfway back through the 1 hr episode I was watching, before I could even press the play button to stop it.  Impossibly fast.

I'm using the factory default settings, as far as I know.  Anyone know how I can tone down the overdrive on rewind?

Hello, I have the same exact problem, from what you described. If I described the problem without having seen your post, I would have said: "When I fast forward, it works well, in fact, beautifully. However, when I click the rewind button, it doesn't work at all. It freezes for what appears to be indefinitely, until all of a sudden I'm back at the beginning of the movie again."

So clearly this is the same problem you are describing. In fact, I'm a rewind freak and was kind of hoping this button would pacify me. I hope I can resolve this, because in fact the rewind button has no value at present. If this is operator error let me know! Would love to fix it, thanks.

This is a known issue that is being looked at for new software revisions.  Seems to mostly happening on AVI files with XVID codec.  See this post at the NETGEAR Support forum:
