So,

Has anyone tried to skin thier EVA? Apparently you now have the ability to do so.

If you are not familiar with what a skin is, it's basically changing the look of the images and background of what you see in the menus and so forth.

So for example you could change the color of the background to a basic black, purple or put up some kind of cool looking skin like this:

I have been looking into it a bit, and it's not that hard. But am wondering if anyone here has done this yet.

If you look over on the Netgear support forums, they are playing around with skins(http://forum1.netgear.com/). Someone is working on an layout editor for them also. There is a site up with some skins and the editor you can download:

http://www.evaskins.co.uk/

You need to run the Beta firmware to get the skinning option and they can be a little flaky. I was trying them but my unit would keep rebooting so I changed it back to the default.

I've got the Matrix skin running on my EVA8000 and it looks great on my 1080p HDTV.  This is from the evaskins.co.uk website.  The jpg's are really a lot darker than how it looks in HD, but my favorites are the Black Leather and TechnoDream.  Getting the skins to run is a little involved; save the beta skin, download the new skins on the PC, run back to the TV and select one- but the results are pretty awesome.  And once you've loaded the skins, you can select a new one on your TV whenever you feel in the mood for a different background.

I don't think I'll be making my own skins but will definitely be interested in seeing what others become available.

I'm currently in process to create a new skin for eva8000.  I've got some problems with transparency in pictures, and "selectors lenght" in folder browsing.

But you can see my "in progress work" there : http:\\www.exxodus.be\

 RedAlert_test.rar

Feel free to comment (Dno't forget this is a IN PROGRESS WORK).

I can't seem to get that eva skinning site to come up any more. I was going to play around with skin making with that utility the site had for download, but now I can't seem to get to it. Does anyone have that saved off somewhere and would be willing to send it to me?

PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.

Has anyone looked into that skinning site to see if it is available elsewhere, who had it or if it may come back?

Hi. New skins are appealing but I can't load any of them.Tongue out

I follow the steps to import skins in EVAdata folder but my EVA doesn't see the new skin (FW 2.1.42). The only one EVA can see is FlareHD that comes with the FWFrown.  I check my EVAdata folder and I can see subfolders FlareSX and RedAlert with the same structure and files than FlareHD. I reload the library and restart EVA with the front panel button and but still only one skinCry.

Is there anyone who can help with this problem ?

Regards

Make sure there isn't an extra directory under each skins directory, i.e: \Evadata\Skins\Red Alert\Red Alert --- Wrong \Evadata\Skins\Red Alert ---- Correct When you unzip the skins, just unzip them to the \Evadata\Skins directory. If you created a directory for them before hand, they end up in a dirctory below as most of them contain the directory in the zip.....

Thanks PardizzoneLaughing. I've checked the structure of directory for skins and they all exactly like the original FlareHD with no duplicated folder name. But there is slight differences in the files count : Flare HG folder \Widgets\bmp contains 34 files and RedAlert \Widgets\bmp contains 28 filesUndecided. All of the others folder have the same files count.

I uninstal DEW and re-install from start, try again to select skins but still can't. Any idea ?

Try using the "reset to defaults" on the EVA8000 under the Supervisor/Advanced menu. You will have to go through the setup of the EVA again but it may clear up the issue. Also, are you pressing "OK" on the dropdown menu when trying to choose a new skin? You need to press OK then use the up/down buttons on the remote to change skins.

Great ! I 'reset to defaults' as you suggest and now it works very well Laughing. Thanks Pardizzone for your help.

No problem, glad you got it working. Red Alert is one of the better skins available, with the smaller fonts and such. IMHO of course.
