Yes and no..... If the DVD has copy protection then it will not play because the EVA can not play copy protected DVDs. If it doesn't have any protection then the EVA will play it.

I have been doing some testing and research on this. Watch for a new article coming up on how to transfer your DVDs to your EVA. Should be up in the next few days.

Ok, but how to play a non-protected content? Although when listing the shares, Eva shows MyPC/DVD (which is checked), but when to play, it does not show anything from the (unprotected, self-made) disc. I am trying it with Music | Folder | MyPC | ... and here only the shared folders from the HD are listed, NOT THE DVD!:(( Why???

many thanks,

Video (VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories). Thanks, it's solved now: I had to make a rescan, using a menupoint (sg like "Quick scan media" or similar). It takes some time, unfortunately, because it (re)scans all shared folders, but at least works.

Btw, I have another problem now, which seems more serious:

1. the menu on the disc is not shown - just starts playing the 1st movie, then the Next button plays the next, a.s.o... But no means to figure out the menu titles, what I am playing, ...??

2. If I have more languages and subtitles, I could not select them (just the 1st is choosen). There is a Menu button, which shows a "programmed" menu (so not the one of the disc), but that neither recognized my languages and subtitles.

The disc format was usually a standard DVD (MPEG2), made by a home DVD recorder or other DVD. Both were played well on the PC with WinDVD or PowerDVD.

thanks,

What version firmware is your unit running? If it is the original firmware (ver. 1.2.20), it doesn't support DVD menus. You will need to update to the latest via the Update option under the Supervisor menu as they added menu support to the latest release. See here....

Thank you. It was the old, 1.2.20 firmware what I upgraded now to 2.0.159. (It was a bit strange, because the device told me that there is new firmware available when set up, and then it seemed to me to download sg. I was sure it downloaded the firmware from the internet, while it didn't.) I was sure it does an automatic check, and at least asks if I want to upgrade?

Now it recognizes the DVD menu. What is a bit strange, is that it does not start showing the it when I start playing. It starts the first movie, and I should press the Menu button on the remote control (only after starting the movie) to show up the DVD menu. Why?

Anyway, thanks. Are you from Netgear?

It doesn't do a check automatically for firmware, you need to manually check for updates. As for starting the movie instead of going to the menu first, it may be due to the program you wrote the disc with. I remember hearing about an issue with some homemade dvds acting strange.

And no.... I don't work for Netgear.
