Has anyone seen any review/benchmarks on sound capabilities of EVA-8000 ?

Any way to tweak the audio quality ?

I have been fairly disappointed even with the optical out to high end receiver/speakers.

Thanks.

I don't have any issues but I don't listen to music that much anymore (no time). One thing to try is lock the volume on the EVA to "0" or lower and only use the reciever to adjust the volume. Turning up the volume directly on the EVA will cause some distortion.

I think another factor could be how the music is encoded.  All of mine is 192kbps MP3, and the EVA sounds pretty solid through my audio setup (custom stereo tube amp w/ Moth Audio Cicadas).  I haven't tried a higher bitrate just yet.  I will mention it sounded "soft" compared to other audio sources, but the quality was just fine for me.  I will try adjusting the volume settings as pardizzone suggested.  Of course, it depends how discerning of an ear you have, too.

If you use the volume control on the EVA8000, once you go over "0" you "will" start to get distortion. The best thing to do is set it to 0 or lower (lock it there in the Audio section under the Supervisor/Advanced options) and only use your amp or TV to adjust the volume. By default, when you reset the EVA, it sets the volume at -16. This actually seems like the "zero" point and at that setting there is no distortion.

I've tried some format for music (MP3 static bit rates, variable bit rate, WMV and and and) but uncompressed is the best :-) So i use WAV-format (44.000 or 48.000) and send the music via HDMI from EVA to my receiver (So the D/A on the receiver is used).

It's really like from CD-Player. No loss of quality. Only disadvantage: EVA displays only the filename, not the infos from the WAV-TAGS. OK, not a big thing, 'cause i want to hear music, not read titles :-)

Hi everyone

I can confirm you have to set EVA volume at 0 and keep it fixed. Use your receiver volume to control the sound. For HiFi quality, forget all the audio format with compression. I prefer PCM (DVD track) and FLAC (ripped  CD) and they can be compare to CD playback. Good Coaxial digital cables and of course good analog cable to your speakers will make a big difference too. By the way, to watch movies I like very much DTS format when available otherwise DD is good too.

Hope this will be helpfull.
