Hi All,

I am having problems connecting to my network using a WIRED connection (WIRELESS works but connection isvery slow). No matter what settings I use it just won't work. I have tried using automatically configure an IP address and manually setting it but it still comes out with "unable to detect network". I have a Prolink Hurricane 9300G ADSL2+ Ethernet Modem Router and a Bufallo Linkstation Live. Everything is connected to the Modem Router. The only time my EVA worked was when I connected the Linkstation Live directly and configured it manually but this is not the ideal setup since I want everyone in my network to access the Linkstation. Please help I'm going nuts here!

EVA8000 firmware 2.0.159 with Windows DEW 1.8.0022

Did you use a static reservation on your router for the wireless connection from the EVA? If so, this can cause it to not connect via wired as they share the same MAC address (I had it happen on mine). If so, just connect via wireless and change the config on your router back to dynamic, you should then be able to connect. If you didn't set a static reservation, try restarting your router with the EVA unplugged from power. Then power up the EVA after restart of router is completed.

by wireless dynamic do you mean WDS?  how do you tell if the router is configured for dynamic or static wireless?  for wired it is configured with static IP with DHCP server on...

A DHCP server will give out IP addressly dynamically by default (wired or wireless). You usually can configure your router to give out the same IP address (static) everytime to a device by adding a reservation. If you didn't set it up on your router then your DHCP server (usually on your router) will be handing out dynamic addresses.

If you connect wirelessly, can you connect with a static IP address and also if you use DHCP? Have you tried a different network cable and have you tried connecting another network device (laptop or NAS) where the EVA connects, using the same cables the EVA uses? This would rule out the cabling to the router.

Also, have you tried resetting the unit to the default settings under the Supervisor menu?

yes i didn't set up the router and it is set as dynamic.  I'm not sure I understand what to do but the same LAN cable works with a laptop with internet connection which rules out any problems with the cable.  I have also reset to default settings but still nothing.  i suspect it has something to do with the settings in the router.....everything seems to work fine except for the eva8000.  any suggestions?

thanks again for helping!

Try resetting the router and see if that lets the EVA attach after resetting it. Also, have you ever had the EVA connect successfully via a wired connection? And when you assign a static IP address, are you filling in all the fields, IP, Subnet, Gateway, DNS (you only need to put in the 1st DNS server)? And what exactly are you putting in the fields for Gateway and DNS?

i've restarted the router a lot of times and no i have never had a successful wired connection, only wireless.

IP: 192.168.1.150  (the range is set to 100-199 in the router)

Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.1.254 (this is the address set for my router)

DNS1: 192.168.1.254

After you set the ip address, can you ping the EVA's address?

Have you "reset" the router so it's at the default setting? Not just restarting it.....

Are any of the LEDs on the network jack on the EVA on? You may have a bad network jack on your EVA if there isn't any link lights.

the right side has a steady green light and the left side has a blinking green light. do these settings matter?

Use Router as DNS Server - true

Use Router as Default Gateway - true

Those settings are set correctly. Do you have access to another router, maybe at a friends house, to see if it will pull an IP address from there? This will show if there is an incompatiblility issue between the EVA and your router. If it works on another router (or just try this anyways), try doing a "Hard" reset of your router and see if it will give the EVA an address after that. Usually there is a reset buton on the back of the router that will wipe all settings. Make sure you write down any settings "before" you reset it. Once reset, try the EVA first to see if it corrects the issue.

did a hard reset with default factory settings and re-inputted the dsl settings.  still the same, eva won't recognize the network.  at this point i'm thinking there's something wrong with the eva. i'll get it replaced or something.  until then i'll just have to make do with wi-fi.  what speeds are you getting from wi-fi?  around 10-11mbps?

thanks again for all your valued inputs!  appreciate it. Laughing

If you reset everyting then I would have to agree that it may be defective. Just call Netgear support and request a replacement. I had a bad HDMI port on my first one and NG swapped it out without any issues.

When I was testing out wireless before, on most connections to different shares, I get 15-16Mbps but the router is 1 floor down directly under where my EVA8000 is. I switched to a wired connection to be able to stream higher bitrate files as I was getting some studdering on certain files.

Hi guys,

had the same problem getting the eva back to wired connection - always used wireless not regarding the settings i changed.

After a lot of trying around i took those steps:

1) switched off my wireless router

2) connected the LAN to my eva (it always uses wireless if there is no cable & afterwards it seems not to check for the cable again...)

3) reset eva to factory defaults

Now it should come up with wired LAN - > finish your settings & check everything out -> power up your wireless again for other use, but DO NOT touch network settings on the EVA (that is the change of connection mode to wireless...;-)

So this is just a hint, worked on my configuration (up & running since some weeks...).......
