Haven't watched my digital entertainer (the 8000 HD) for a few days now.  Turned my TV on this morning, and it was just a blank screen.  I rebooted the EVA, and it gave me the nifty startup screen - for 15-20 seconds - then back to a blank screen.

I've used the reset button to reset to factory defaults, thinking that might help. But I get the same effect after that I got before.

Anyone have any other suggestions on how I can restore my EVA to working order?

How is it connected to your display (composite, HDMI etc.) and what firmware version are you running? Have you tried connecting it to your display through another connection type? When you say you used the reset button, did you do it as follows? If not, try resetting again.

Plug/power on unit. When intial screen is displayed, press and hold the reset button on back of unit until it restarts.

Original firmware.  Can I update it without access to the on-screen interface?

Connecting through composite audio and S-video.  No, I have not tried another connection type, but that's a great idea.  Will try composite video.

When I reset, I did so *after* reaching the blue screen.  Will try again, but reset immediately.

No longer in front of the unit.  Will try these options and get back to you.  Thanks for the ideas, man!

You could see if you can get to the web interface after it starts up and flash it from there as long as it's actually running and you can connect to it.

The web interface *was* able to interact with the unit even while blank-screen'd, but that didn't get me anywhere.

However, your suggestion to retry the reset while it was starting up worked.  It didn't seem like it worked at first, but it did.  Here's what happened, for the benefit of others who might find themselves in this spot...

The manual says to hold down the reset button for 5 seconds.  I held it down way past that, maybe 8-9 seconds, and still no indicator on screen that any resetting was going on.  But after about 3-4 seconds after I let go of the reset button, it did in fact reboot and the menu came up.  So, the moral of the story is 1) reset during startup, and 2) there's a delay.

Once the menu came up, I was able to update the firmware easily, and life is good again.

Thanks for the help.
