Ok, getting officially a bit frustrated.

After my many threads on my configuration consistently crashing and resolving the issues relating to that, I know have something I can't even begin to understand...

To bring us up to speed, I use a EVA 8000 in my bedroom for mp3 and dvd playback. I have a ROKU for mp3 playback in the living room. I use a Motorola Cable moden and a Linksys 54GS router. I use a MAxtor NAS (Shared Storage II)

Soon to add a switch to lighten load on the Linksys router....

EVA is wired to HDX Powerline 101 and get 50Mbps receive and 21 Mbps TX according to Powerline utility. The Roku is wireless etc.

In the living room, with the ROKU, I can playback mp3s from the NAS with no problems, I go to the EVA in the bedroom and all appears to work fine except for:

a)  I will switch EVA to mp3 playback and show the songs playing, except that nothing will sound, no volume  until I hit the volume button up or down a notch, then I hear the song.

If I jump to the next song, nothing again until I nudge volume up or down for the next song.

b) The problem just before the one above and this seems to have replaced was that every song would end and not play the next one for 20 seconds.

f I waited long enough, approx 20 seconds,  the next song would play on it's own.  But every song had a 20 seconds spacing between it and the next one. Lot's of fun at parties...

I can replicate the volume thing a million times, not sure what else to so, network is wonderfully stable for the last 36 hours, something I had not had in some time.

I'm going to try a reset on the EVA to see what happens next.

Never a dull moment with my EVA...

Resetting the EVA should clear up the volume issue but you can also try setting the volume lock level on the EVA to 0db under the Audio and slideshow menu and just use your receiver to adjust the volume. This should stop it from happening again. I have seen this issue and the workaround of setting the lock seems to take care of it.

For the 20 second delay, did you ever experience this before adding the powerline adapters? It could be an issue with the adapters not being on the same circuit. What do you get for #s if you do a network test on the EVA? The adapter utility does not actually show the correct throughput as it doesn't show network protocol overhead. It is just running a test between the adapters with no protocol overhead. Another thing to try to prove it's the powerline adapters causing the pause is to switch back to wireless and test the playback. If you no longer get the pauses then it's an issue with the adapters.

pardizzone:

Reset didn't clear up the volume issue.

But I will try the lock...

I didn't experience before the Powerline adapters.

I went back to wireless and had the same issue there with the volume problem, but the network test does show much lower numbers than it use to in either case (wired or unwired).

I was getting 17mbps on the EVA or so wirelessly previously. but now wired or unwired I get about 3mbps.

This is not acceptable, but 3 Mbps should work at least for mp3 playback I would assume.

I would suspect NAS except that with ROKU no getting any problems of delays etc...

I swapped out EVA units, ( this first one was going back) the new EVA has no audio problem and wired I get 18mbps and wireless 3mbps.

The first one (the one going back) used to be at 18 wireless before it changed to 3mbps wired and wireless..

Boy, this is a bit of a roller coaster ride trying to keep up with the variances, any chance a new firmware/ software update is in the works?

What firmware version are you running on the new one. There is constant development on new firmware but the current beta has some issues. There was an update to the Digital Entertainer for Windows (DEW) software that can be retrived through the Netgear program group if you use it on Windows.

The firmware was 2.1.09 NA and I used the EVA Update function to update it.

I'll look into the software update...

Almost afraid to see what shows up next...
