I don't have a MAC but will try to help you. What firmware version are you running on the EVA8000 and is it set to automattically get an IP address?

Hi,
I just got the EVA8000. Before I bought this I had done my reserch and had found the article on using the Mac OS X 10.4 with EVA8000 ( http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101683.asp).
After getting the the EVA8000, I downloaded the MAC SW from this webpage and I did exactly what the article said but I am not able to see any of my media on my MAC. I am not sure what I did wrong . The MAC entertainer client seems to be able to talk to the EVA8000, but the shares dont seem to work.
Has anyone else here been successfull in hooking up the EVA8000 to a MAC ? Any help is appretiated.
Thanks
Ajith

My Firmware is 2.0.159a
The IP address is set to update automatically.
Thanks for the help

Since you are using DHCP, go into the Network settings on the EVA and check that it is picking up all the correct settings from your DHCP server. Make sure that it uses your internal router for both Gateway and DNS1. If it is set wrong then manually assign the address by removing the X on Automatically obtain checkbox and correcting the wrong entries. Also try disabling any firewalls you use on the Mac and see if it will then connect. And double check the permissions any shares you want to give access to.
What are you using as a router/DHCP server?

Hi,
I am not very good at networking. So this may sound stupid:
I am using a Linksys wireless router but the EVA is hooked up directly using a network cable.
- Right now the IP address is set to update automatically but the Gateway and DNS1 are different numbers. The Gateway is set to 192.168.1.1 while the DNS1 is 66.75.160.63.
- On the setup wizard when it asks for the SW to be insalled on the computer, it does seem like the mac and EVE are communicating since the EVA seems to be able to detect that the SW was installed on the MAC. So I am thinking the issues I am having has more to do with how I setup the shares more than the newtoeking it self- When I setup the shares: Is the share name my account name (ie: ajith) or is it the path /users/ajith/
Thanks for your time and help.

The problem is the DNS..... It looks like it's using your ISP's DNS server which has no idea what your Mac's IP is and when the EVA tries to find it, the DNS response from your ISP's DNS server will be it can't find your Mac. If you manually set the IP address, subnet, gateway and DNS1 you should be good to go. Just set the gateway and DNS1 to your router's IP (192.168.1.1) and double check/follow the documentation again.

Here's the part for the name of the share to enter:

Somhow, I am unable to change the DNS1 settings. Eventhough I have the Update IP address automatically box unclicked, when I put the router's IP address in the DNS1 field, save and then get back, the DNS1 field seems to have reverted back to my ISPs DNS address.
Any idea what I may be doing wrong here ?
Thanks
Try the "Reset to Defaults" option under the Supervisor/Advanced menu and see if that clears it up. I believe it will run through the setup again after you reset it.
