Hi Gurus,

I have a good collection of mp4 videos. All these videos have been created on  a Apple Mac platform & i believe (not sure) that they are in a avc1 format within the mp4 category.

I have been researching the EVA8000HD box in order to play this collection of mine & want to make sure if this format will be supported before i go ahead & buy this.

Would greatly appreciate if anyone on this forum can enlighten me on this ........

Thanks,

I don't have any mp4 files with avc1 to try so i can't say for sure if they will play or not. There are many variables that would cause it to not play, or play. If you can run one through Mediainfo (google it), change the view to text and copy/paste the output here we will be able to see the exact codec/bitrate/etc that it uses.

"everything will be ok in the end. if it's not ok, it's not the end" - unknown

Well i couldnt wait ..so i went ahead & bought the EVA8000. Everything went fine except for the mp4's :(.

When i try to play these vdos ...my EVA just reboots ..for each of these videos :((
These have been created using the software "handbreak" on a mac laptop. I really want to be able to play this collection of mine. These vdos play well though on my windows PC using VLC media player.

I'll try to use this mediainfo software & copy-paste the info here.

Desperately want to fix this issue ...

Thanks for all ur help - much appreciated !

Hi

I just joined so I could give you a quick reply from a very happy eva8000 owner.

Firstly my machine uses the latest firmware from netgears beta site, with no issues.

I play avchd videos with the following settings. I have converted them from footage from my sony HDR-cx6 using nero vision .

Settings were export as file :avc (avchd compatible) bit rate 12,000Kbps, two pass render. The results are excellent

Here is the info from the mediainfo you wanted.

Hope it all goes well for you.

p.s. the I manually change the file extension from *.mp4 to *.ts after rendering is complete. I also use a wired LAN, I gave up on wireless connections some years back, except for use on the laptop.
I have to admit I use iso files for my DVDs now, but have test played mp4 files (nero digital)that I had ripped for my short lived Kiss1600 with no problems, although these were only 6Mbps

Have just watched a one hour video processed using above settings except for the stream is now at 15Mbps (same data rate as the camcorder). Still giving me a perfect picture. Intrestingly the stream needs to be processed through nero vision first to play well at 15Mbps. Unmodified files from the cam corder end up rebuffering every few seconds.
