Hi people,

I`m a new member as of yesterday. I purchased my EVA8000 last week.

I have ripped my entire DVD collection to my home built Windows Home Server. I have at present around 350 movies / tv series all from original DVD ripped to AVI / DIVX as this seems to be the only format the XBox 360 can stream across a wired Network. It can of course play other formats, but it appear`s only from a DVD, not across a Network. I may be wrong, but only AVI`s play.

Anyway, like everyone I use the Netgear DE softwares Tag Tool to tag the AVI`s with info. The thing is, there are a few AVI`s which won`t allow me to tag them.  I receive the following error -

Failed To Save Changes To This File - Not Implemented.

Now, the AVI`s are Titanic, Green Mile and King Kong. Although files can be given any name, these are the files I am having problems with so far, as I haven`t finished tagging them all. But, what I have noticed is that so far, these are the only files which go over the 2gb size.

Has anyone else come across this? Any idea`s people?

I look forward to hearing from you on this.

Thanks.

Neil.

Have you updated the DEW software? Sounds like a problem that was in the older version. There's a check for updates shortcut in the Netgear program group. Or you can get it for here: http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/d103255.asp

Hi PZ,

Thanks for that.

As far as I know I already have the latest version installed. I clicked on the `Update Software` button on the blue menu panel and it comes back with a `Your Software Is Uptp Date` message.

Is there any way I can find out which version I have installed? I can`t seem to find an `About` or `Info` button to show which version is installed.

Just a quick thought, if I do install the version on that link you pasted, do I need to unistall my existing version or do I just install it and it will update itself? I was just wondering this as if I need to uninstall first, would all my Tag info be removed or would it still be safe?

On that point, where exactly is the Tag data held? I can`t find it anyway. I`d like to be able to back it up incase I lose it for whatever reason, so hopefully a drag and drop would restore it. Any idea`s on this one?

Thanks again.

I would do a full uninstall of the old software then install the latest version. There's no way I have found yet to display a version # either so I always just uninstall and install latest.

As for the Tag data, that is written as meta data in the actual file your tagging. Or there used to be an option to save the data it adds to a ".tag" file which you could backup but I didn't see that in the latest version. I don't use the tool myself as I only use my EVA for music and RSS feeds (I use another streamer for video) and tagged all my music with MediaMonkey.

Ok PZ,

Thanks for that.

I`ll try the uninstall/reinstall and report back the results.

Hi again,

Right, I uninstalled my current version and installed the version in the link posted above.

I am still having the same issue. The 2gb upwards files will not let me tag them.

Has anyone else had this?

Hi Neil

I have seen this problem as well but only with a couple of avi files out of my collection of several hundred. None of the files that I am having problems with are very big (approx 350MB) and I have found no reason for the problem. What I did do was download a copy of the file from one of the bitTorrent sites, over writing the version that I had ripped and I was then able to tag it so it looks like it has something to do with the format of the file. Why these few files are any different to all the others, I have no idea though.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the post.

The only files I had problem were 2gb or higher. The titles in question were `The Green Mile`, `Titanic` and `King Kong`.

I ripped all my DVD`s to AVI (DIVX) 192kbps mp3 Audio format, as our little boy also likes to watch them on his XBOX 360 and this is the only format the 360 can play over a Network.

I updated the DEW Software to the latest (Beta) version and also updated the Firmware on the EVA unit.

The new DEW Tag Tool software allows you to save a seperate TAG file for your video files. They video files can now play on the 360 as well as show the TAG information for large 2gb+ files.

I don`t know if your interested, but once I tagged the video files with the older DEW software, they would no longer play on the 360, as this seems to change the video file header, which the 360 can no longer read. I also beleive certain other media players were having trouble viewing tagged files. Of course, each file needed fixing with dedicated software.

Regards

Hi Neil, did you ever find the fix for this? I am having the same problem - or where did you get the new DEW software?

Hi Luke,

What exactly is the problem your having?

You`ll need to download the latest DEW from the NetGear Forums Site, but to do that you`ll need to register. Go to http://forum1.netgear.com/forumdisplay.php?f=85 and click on the Sticky `Interested in being a beta tester for upcoming EVA8000 firmware releases?`

Follow the instructions to register and then you can enter the Beta Software Forums were you can download the latest versions.

Hope this helps.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards

Neil.
