Hi people,

Right, after finally converting all my DVD collection to AVI`s, I have now hit a problem.

My collection of over 350 DVD movies/tv shows were ripped to AVI: - MPEG 4 - 15000 kbps (DivX, XviD) with Audio: MP3 - 192kbps.

Now, I ripped to this format as this seemed to be the only file type the XBox 360 could play over a network. It can however, play other file typed from disc.

The problem is, since I tagged all the AVI`s for use on the Netgear EVA8000, they are no longer playable on the XBox 360. Even removing the tag information still leaves the AVI`s unplayable.

Has anyone else experienced this? This is a serious downer for me, as I originally ripped the DVD`s to the Home Server so that our young boy could watch them on his TV without trashing my DVD collection. Now they are unplayable, except on the Netgear EVA8000.

Any comments people? I look forward to hearing from you on this.

Regards

Neil.

You can try running the files through VirtualDub or DivFix++ to rebuild the headers. This will fix the issue you are having with the files. Also, go to the Netgear Support forums and create an account then join the Beta Program from this thread. This will open a sub forum for the Beta Program in the EVA8000 forum. In the Beta forum, in this sticky (you will need to be a user in the beta program and logged in for this link to work), grab the latest beta version of DEW. They added a settings menu that allows you to save the tag info to a .tag file that the EVA8000 will read the info from.

Hi PZ,

Thanks for that.

I`ve had a try of those two programs, but too be honest, I can`t seem to suss them out. DivFix++ looks to be the easiest to use, but I can`t figure out how the Output Path and extensions work.

VirtualDub seems to be more of a point and click which should be easier to use, but I can`t seem to find a Fix button of any sort that may fix my files.

Have you used these programs yourself? Any idea`s on what to do?

Thanks in advance.

Hi again all,

Just bumping this one up as I could do with a solution to this annoying problem.

Does anyone have any idea`s how to use the above two programs?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks all.

I just load the file in DivFix and set the output path then click on the "Fox" button. The output path is where you want the repaired file to be written.

Hi PZ,

Thanks for that.

I fogot to update my thread, but I did suss it out. It was easier than I first expected, derrrrr.

I also joined the NetGear Forums and downloaded the beta DEW Software and EVA Firmware, although when I downloaded the latest firmware, I ran an system Internet Update and it actually downloaded an update with a lower firmware number. I`m not sure what it is, I can`t think of my head right now and the missus is watching TV now.

I don`t nkow if it`s just me, but it seems to be having problems with the newly vampped YouTube player, it comes up with Network Problems and Buffering Messages for EVERY video now. It didn`t do that before.

Also, I sussed out the tagging problem, although I`ll have to go through ALL my AVI collection again.

I simply fixed a couple of AVI`s with DIVFIX+++, then re-tagged them with the DEW tagtool and clicked the SAVE .TAG FILE setting. I guess it must have now saved a seperate TAG file, as the XBox 360 now plays them. I`ll spend the rest of the year re-tagging them all.

Thanks again mate.

Let me know if you experience any YouTube problems. I`ll paste my Firmware Version up once the missus has given up the TV.

Regards

They are going to release a new public version (they may have already and that's what you got). The old public version was X.X.159 and I don't have mine hooked up at the moment (just swapped it out to play with a new Xbox 360) to see if they updated it. When I hook it back up later in the week I'll updtae it and check out YouTube with it. What is your connection speed to the net so I can compare it to mine (I have 20Mbit Up and Down) when I test it.

Yeah, the firmware I`m running now is 2.1.66 UK, so I think you could be right about the new public version being available.

My broadband connection is a 8mb max ADSL line, the good old copper wire network as supplied by BT, over here in the UK, although we get around 6.5 mb as it varies with distance from the exchange. Upload is only 256k on all ADSL lines. We don`t yet have cable in our area. In fact broadband over here is pretty poor compared to other parts of the world.

I would definately check out the YouTube feature, it looks better but I`m having playback problems with it now.

Thanks

Neil.

(P.S) In another post, we mentioned about running the DEW software as service, on Windows Home Server, without having to log in and start it up. Well, I have it running as a service and is easier than I thought. I also have it controlled from the Home Server Console via a shortcut. I`ll update the other thread if your interested?

Please update it as I plan on getting my WHS running again now that PP1 is released.
