I set up my EVA 8000 no problem first time around and it was running great for a while.

Now it seems everytime I start up the eva it says that I have no files so have to re-scan everytime I want to watch something which is slow and irritating sa you can imagine.

I assume it could be a few things:

- I am connecting wirelessly, so if I switch my router off at night, would this affect it?

- I also turn my laptop off which is the computer I am using with the EVA

- Should I leave the EVA on all night?

- Is it possible that my firewall is blocking the EVA from writing to it's library file?

- Should I turn off auto scan every night at 1am as my laptop is usually off at this time

For any suggestions!

>>I am connecting wirelessly, so if I switch my router off at night, would this affect it?

Yes as the EVA would not be able to complete a scan or write/load the library and would cause it to think there is no library.

>>I also turn my laptop off which is the computer I am using with the EVA.

Same as above....

>>Should I leave the EVA on all night?

Pressing the power button on the remote or unit front only shuts down the video. The unit is still running unless you power the unit off by switching the power off (Netgear warns against unplugging the unit repeatedly).

>>Is it possible that my firewall is blocking the EVA from writing to it's library file?

If you can complete a full scan when everything is powered up and connected then it will work fine if you leave everything on overnight. You could leave your router on and just put your laptop to sleep and allow the EVA to wake it up.

Hey Pardizzone

Thanks for the advice. So if I turned off my autoscan (the one that starts at like 3am, I could turn of everything at night and just run scans manually when I need them without 'losing' my library?

Also, I assume if I restarted my router (as I need to do from time to time) this would be fine for the library, as long as there is no scan going on or about to start?

thanks again!

Yes... you will just need to make sure your pc is on before trying to load/access the library. And rebooting the router will have no effect on it as long as there is no scans running.

Hi livecell,

What I do when I have finished using the EVA is power it down first, then turn off my Server/PC.

I use a power plug with a built in switch, which can turn the unit on/off without pulling the plug all the time.

When I want to use it, I turn on my Server/PC first, wait a couple of minutes for it to start up, then turn on the EVA.

I don`t have any issues with scanning at all, but it may be because I use a Server instead of a PC. I don`t need to do a scan, as the EVA can SEE the Server. Any comments on this pardizzone?

Also, I turn on my Router first thing in a a morning, when I goet up for work, just incase the missus wants to use the PC during the day. I turn if off last thing at night, before going to bed, as it`s not needed during the night.

Regards

Neil.
