Hi All

Ive read some of the problems on this forum and have found it to be interesting as I thought it was only me experencing difficulty with this product at this point I'm tired of the machine for multiple problems and forever re-booting

I,ve had my Eva for quite a few months, it was connected through my Belkin router, I kept having dificulty with it trying to access my media files on the PC but at least I had access to my film files, however since I updated the firmware to the latest version this problem occured were I'm now unable to access ZERO media files through the Eva, all I can do is use the Radio and UTube  thats adhoc at times ,I've contacted the support service a few time but Ive found they dont seam to understand the problem and give excuses that its a problem with my Belkin modem and dont deal with my problem!!     Ive enabled access via my fiewall?

Can anyone advise me what I need to do to get Eva 8000 to work properly with my computer?,

Hi Kiddo,

Welcome to My Digital Entertainer.

Have you tried playing your media from a USB key or USB hard drive?

The problem may well be with your Belkin Router.

I`m no expert, but it may be worth trying playing your media from a different source, one which does not go through your Router.

Save a file or two on a USB key or hard drive and if they play, then try some more. If they play then maybe your Router is the problem. If they don`t play then we need to think of something else.

Hope this helps.

Hi Neil,

Thanks for getting back to me, I have tried the USB and Ipod which both work when its connected directly to the Eva via USB, my problems really started when I updated with the new firmware thats when I was unable to connect through the Belkin and no play back totally.

Since then I been fiddling around with the setting and lastnight I contacted Belkin some how by pour flock the Eva is playing back my Movie Files and Music at present via an ethernet cable ITS UNABLE TO WORK VIA WIRELESS AS BEFORE.

MY current problem is some film files have no sound and Im unable to connect via wireless, any thoughts on this sound issue??

Hi Kiddo,

I`m not sure to be honest.

Do you have a friend who has a non-Belkin Wireless Router you could try? just to check the problems MAY be caused by your Belkin Router.

Perhaps the antenna connections may be damaged, just a thought.

I`ve never used Wireless myself, I prefer the good old hard wired connections.

As to your movie movies which have no sound, what format are the videos recorded in? Have you tried re-ripping the movies you are having problems with?

Try ripping to a different format and see if they play?

Which firmware are you using? Only this week I updated to the newest public version, which seems to have been released only this week. It gave me nothing but problems while playing video content. Not a single video played all the through, the unit froze with a black screen, sometimes with a green screen. Even YouTube video`s seemed to start playing, then stuttering and freeze the unit. I think this version was 2.1.66.

I now use the Beta version 2.1.81, so far everything seems to playing ok. I still have the odd problem playing certain YouTube videos, but these same videos were unable to play no matter which firmware I used.

Try out a few different file types and another Router if possible and let us know how you get on.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Thanks for getting back to me, apoligies for my slow response to you this is due to me not regually checking mail.

Re eva problems I have thought about re formatting files that dont play, do you now any free software that will enable me to try this?

I've considered testing eva via a friends wireless modern as also advised by eva support tech but at present its finding the time to do that, I have played eva back wirelessly BUT this was before my firmware upgrade, as advised I had major problem when I upgraded this however after all the messing around with settings and my Belkin some how it started to work, I want the wireless feature to work on the eva as this will allow me to play back from different rooms around my home.

The fireware version Im using is the release from feb 08, I believe it ends with 159? on the netgear site, I will stick with this for now as the eva at least works on most FILES? were did you get the Beta test firmware? I hope your product is working properly now?

What number do you call the Netgaer tech team on? I find the wait times to get throiugh are far TOO long around 40mins avaerage, this is an 0844 so is costly!!! is there a toll free number for the UK?

Once again thanks for feedback!!!

Hi Kiddo,

How are you doing?

Right, I`m not sure what you mean when you say `reformat` your files. Do you mean `convert`? For example convert from MPEG to AVI. If so, I don`t use any free software. What I do use is `AVS Video Coverter`, this is not free, but costs only £22 a year or £33 for a lifetime licence.

The good thing is, your can download and use any of their software on the one licence, so you really do get a good bargain. I use `Video Convertor` to rip directly from DVD to AVI files. They also sell Audio software.

Find it here http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx

I also use `DivFix++`, which IS free. I used this to fix my AVI files. When I originally tagged the AVI files they were unplayble on our XBOX 360, as the Tag Tag changes the metadata on the video file, rendering it unplayable on some media players, including the 360.

DivFix++ simply repairs the `header` of the file, and only takes a minute or two. Now, when I rip new DVD`s, I use the `ALWAYS SAVE TAG FILE` option in the Tag Tool. This saves a TAG as a seperate file, so the 360 can also play the original video file.

Right, you also asked about firmware. The version I am using is something like 2.1.66, I`m not 100% if it is that, but I`m pretty sure it is 2.1.66. I don`t have my EVA8000 on at the moment. I did try the latest Beta firmware, version 2.1.81, but it caused me all sorts of problems, and failed to play a single movie all the way through without bombing out.

I used the `Internet Update` option on the EVA8000 settings and it downloaded the 2.1.66, which is the latest public release.

To Register for the Beta firmware you need to go here http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=7118 simply follow the on screen instructions to sign up.

NetGear`s own forums can be found here http://forum1.netgear.com/forumdisplay.php?f=85 which is a page the beta page. Again, you`ll need a user name and password before you can use it.

Right, I hope this helps.

Let us know how you get on.
