Categories: Setting up EVA
Hi people,
After receiving an email from a user on another thread, and also mentioning this topic in these particular forums, I have now decided to start a thread on this.
Those of you who are running the EVA8000 from a Windows Home Server may have come across the problem of having to log into the Server every time you need to run the DEW software.
I have listed below, instructions (sort of) on how to install your DEW software as a Service, which runs automatically in the background on powering up your Home Server.
Right, here we go.
You will need the following two applications.
Windows Server 2002 Resource Kit Tools - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Any Service Installer - http://forum.wegotserved.co.uk/index...ads&showfile=7 as mentioned in previous link. YOU WILL NEED TO REGISTER AND LOG-IN WITH `WE GOT SERVED` TO DOWNLOAD FILES, this takes only seconds.
Its best if you copy both applications over to your Server first. I copied them to the Software shares Folder, then dragged them onto the Server desktop.
Now, for this to work, simply install the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools. I logged onto my Windows Home Server using the Remote Desktop Connection, then installed it from the Desktop, like any normal application.
Once that is done, simply double click the Any Service to launch it. It is a self running file, so there is no installation process. It can be ran from the Desktop or any Folder you place it in.
Once it has started up, simply locate your Windows Server Resource Kit Tools `Folder`, then locate the `Application` you would like to start as a `Service`. In this case, it would the `receiver.exe` file in your NetGear folder, in your C/Program Files Folder.
The Any Service Installer is totaly self explainatory, you can`t go wrong.
Once you have done that, you can then run the System Configuration Utility and UnTick the Receiver from the Startup Tab. This will stop the DEW software startup up when you LogIn to your Server. You won`t need this now, as it will automatically start up as a Service when you power up your Server.
If you install the `Advanced Admin Console` add-in, you can then create a Shortcut in your Windows Home Server Console directly to your Any Service Installer file, which could be handy for future use.
Right, I hope I haven`t made this too complicated. If anyone has any problems, them just post them up and we`ll check it out.
Let me know how you get on.
Regards
Neil
