I've just connected my EVA wired using HDX101s instead of connecting wireless as i had set up previously. I did this mainly to improve the playback of youtube clips which sometimes used to stall with the wirless connection. So far this problem seems to have gone away. However other problems have appeared instead !Frown These are,

1) Internet radio doesnt work. It just says 'cannot access internet radio daa'. This was fine on wireless.

2) Similarly Flickr doesnt work - i get 'cannot access flickr data'.

3) I also can't access RSS data anymore

Any ideas anybody ?

Hi there,

I`m not sure, but at a guess, perhaps the Powerline adaptors have changed the IP address somewhere?

I have a Home Server, XBOX 360, 2 PC`s and EVA8000 and for a while I was getting IP conflicts. I narrowed ot down to the Router changing the IP address.

Don`t ask me why, It just did Undecided

Have you tried connecting via a cable?

It almost sounds like a DNS issue. I would try setting it up manually with a static IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS if you are using DHCP to see if it improves anything.

I am using the same Powerline adapters in my setup, and I am currently using it with my EVA 8000. Your EVA should be able to get an IP address automatically from your network - all the Powerline adapters should be doing is bridging your connection.

Are you on a Windows setup? If so, the Powerline adapters have a setup program that might help you diagnose the problem. If you don't get them "paired up" correctly, you will not get a connection - that was a problem I experienced in the beginning!

Give it a shot and let us know how it goes!

Hi Peter,
I think I have the network set up as I can see it on my router config display. Also I can run the EVA Config OK. Yesterday I coiuld do Youtubes fine but internet radio and Flickr didnt work. Today the EVA cant see the internet at all ! ##@% ! I checked the HDX101 config display and it shows both devices. However the Local one shows HD Video Quality running at 200mbps but the remote one shows only DVD quality running at c. 80 mbps (this varies). This doesnt seem right to me. Also the local device has the checkbox ticked but the remote doesnt. Why is that ?
I continue to be grateful for any help i can get with all this. I am rapidly losing patience with it.

brgds

I am using static IP addresses by the way

I can honestly say that I did not have this kind of trouble with the Powerline adapters, and I am by no means a Powerline adapter expert or support tech (although I wish I was, so I could help you out!)

If you're able to connect it through other means, and the Powerline adapter is the only thing that seems to be messing up your setup, try resetting the adapters (and the EVA) per the instructions in the manual, then set them up again. Sometimes things can just get confused.

If you try this, double check all your settings, and are still having trouble, you may need some technical support - unless there's a Powerline adapter expert out there on the community!

How do I reset the adaptors - just unplug em ?
By resetting the EVA do you been restart/run set up - i've done that more times than i care to mention !
One of the reasons i'm close to throwing the towel in with the eva is that I bought an s-video->scart cable for about 1/10th of what ive spent on the EVA and it does almost everything the EVA does and also lets me watch streaming TV on my LCD TV which the EVA doesnt. It also took 5 mins to set up.
I'll hang in for a bit longer with the EVA but it IS an infuriating product.

Try unplugging and replugging them in - but I believe there is a way to hard reset them with the software as well.

Do you live in a older house? If you do then the wiring may not be up to code. From the Netgear support site:

To test whether a house's electrical wiring is contributing to Powerline problems, plug units in the same room. Examples of potential problems are:

Old fuse boxes.
Old wiring that does not meet modern wiring building codes.

Guys,
Thanks to all for taking the time to reply on this. Much appreciated.
My assessment of the situation is that
a) I can establish a network with the powrline adaptors. My router web monitor indicates this and a while ago I had everything working except the internet radio as i stated in my first post. Youtube worked fine.
b)since i've been fiddling about I can't get back to a) and am finding if i get the adaptors making the network I cant get to the internet and vice versa and
I can run the EVA config but it can't find the EVA to complete the set up.

I think the prob might be to do with the fact that my network connection is used for both my office (am using a lappy) and the powerline adaptors at home so there is some sort of clash causing the problem at b). The host is also in a domain which might complicate things too. I dont know enough about this stuff to be sure so any help would be welcome. The point about the old house might be true but I think that is more likely to afect performance than the basic set up ?
After some initial hassle i got my wireless set up working fine with the EVA so maybe I have to revert to that, take the hit on the performance ie. the youtube clips not always playing properly, and put the powerline adaptors on ebay ? Seems a pity but there you go.
By the way is it normal for the remote (EVA) device to have a lower bit rate (ie. 200 v 100) than the host computer with the powerlines ? Also my middle blue lights are blinking and not solid as it says in Poverline guide ?

December 3, 2008 5:23 PM

Well a blinking blue light usually means you have a problem with the wiring from what I've been reading (i.e one adapter is on one phase and the other adapter is on another phase). It will affect the setup "and" performance if they are different phases (or legs).First step is to plug them in to recepticles in the same room and see if they stay solid. If they do stay solid then it's definately the wiring in the house.

Another thing I've noticed is that when I run the EVA config it kicks off my media player for no apparent reason. I'm sure it didnt use to do that. Any ideas ? It's probably not relevant to my main problem but I thought I'd mention it. I seem to get new problems everyday !

There is a reason..... It is actually turning on sharing in WMP11 and publishing the share to the EVA (this is for DRM content played through WMP11). It's a normal part of the configuration.
