My wishlist so far

Hi I have the Eva since 2 weeks and my product wishlist so far would be: 1. Improve responsiveness to Remote Control Commands I would like to seethe event queuing inside the Eva prioritized for Remote Control commands. Two examples: - Music playing over network, photo show running in the same time, try to open the thumbnail index --> the commands given from Remote Control take a VERY LONG delay until they are processed (even simple commands like up and down). - Quick search for new media, press "Menu" to stop the search --> the delay until the search is really stopped is really big 2. Improve performance of Search for new media. Background search? 3. Weather channel not just for US! I live in Europe! 4. Please improve internet Radio Support to make it more robust (e.g. try reconnect when a connection is broken or invalid data is comming or datastream corrupt, instead of just breaking off) 5. Support for "live browsing" (maybe make it configurable so the user can choose whether he wants to go over live browsing OR the media library) 6. Internet Radio - more support for user-define Radio stations: create a Sepparate list for the...

My EVA - the Story So far

Hi, I’ve found this site very useful for finding my way round the mysteries of the EVA8000HD so thought I’d take the time to give some feedback on my experience so far with the product……. Installation/Set up I had a nightmare with this. It took me ages to set up a wireless network with the EVA and my Laptop which I also use for work. The problem was eventually solved by using static IP addresses and opening ports on my Speedtouch 585 router. Have to say I got much better support from Speedtouch and my ISP than Netgear. Their first level support is next to useless in my experience. Another thing I found was that there is a typo in the instructions for installing the Firmware when you download from Netgear. ie. they say .bin when they mean .img. At the time it was like solving the Da Vinci code ! Photos This works fine though initially I had a problem whereby it wouldn’t run a slide show properly and jumped all over the place. Again Netgear support was useless and I eventually solved this by tweaking folder settings in the advanced menu. Music Good. I’m playing the sound through...

Cannot view Puchased WMV Media on the EVA 8000

I cannot view puchased full owned WMV Media (VOD) on the EVA 8000. Even after I full scan my PC, the WMV file will not show on the list of videos. I guess the encryption of the file that allows it to play on the WMP 11.0 is not active on the EVA 8000, or else it is because the files are too big. Is there a work around?

I have a large library of photos 100'000+ and every time I attempt to access them with the digital entertainer, the system appears to freeze (pretty blue screen no text). Does any body else have this problem? Is there a fix?

Going Back To The Store

Let me start by saying, given my previous satisfaction with Netgears Networking products, to be let down so much by the offerings of the EVA8000HD. Slow Video Playback Performance when browsing through menu's. Slow Menu Speeds. Updates unable to be applied from multiple USB devices. Had to be applied online. A HD Device outputting a default of 4 x 3??? With no option to set TV Ratio under advanced settings. Come on Netgear. 1.85:1 DVD Files not filling the screen when set to 16 x 9 Pan & Scan / Letterbox in any modes. The lack of knowledge of Netgears Technical support staff regarding this component. (This may have something to do with the fact that these are off-shore call centres) And More... For netgear to release such an apparently immature and untested product to the market with the hope of fixing problems later with the release of software updates is a foolish move and misconceived ideal that customers will patiently await patches to fix issues and live with the problems at hand. It seems that this site is either highly moderated by Netgear staff, or am i alone in having these problems.

Are there any features you think would greatly improve your EVA experience? List your top suggestions, and let's see how many of us would like to see the same things added to the EVA in future software, or hardware, developments. Here are a couple of mine to start off with: 1. Make it work with the SlingBox ! Wouldn't that be awesome?! 2. I'd like to see some of the configuration options made more intuitive so that customizing my file browsing experience is easier. 3. A more powerful remote control that I can program to use with the rest of my home theater components, like my TiVo.

Remember where I left off

So, pretty much everyone knows by now that I watch vids on my EVA8000 while working out. This is my favorite way to walk through morning-by-morning season after season of my favorite shows. One tiny upgrade that would absolutely improve this experience is if the digital entertainer remembered where I left off. Every morning, when I hop the treadmill, turn on my TV, and get ready to watch something, the NDE comes back from sleep / screen saver mode to the main menu. I then have to click about 20 times to browse through my video to get to my show. This was the path this morning... TV / Video -> Recorded -> Server -> Media -> Smallville -> Season 6 -> the next episode Actually, it even took me a few extra clicks, because I forgot for a second (silly me!) that I was watching Smallville instead of Stargate Atlantis (just switched last week). Anyway the unit could be upgraded (or configured somehow) to have been sitting at the "Season 6" episode list when it woke up?
