Netgear EVA line needs to modernize

A friend of mine bought an EVA9150 player against my advice (he returned it after using it) and well cant say I was terribly impressed with it either, Netgear have really fallen behind the times and the competition is better in every way. Netgear EVA units are not recommended on any of the forums were media players are discussed in details, the likes of the Popcornhour and WDTV Live have blown the EVA out the water with good reason. The dozens of Realtek powered players all on the market are only contributing towards Netgears envitable exit (FYI this forum is practically dead). Now that's not good as less competition is bad for the consumer and I would like to see Netgear do well. As someone familiar with the desires & the buying practices of media players this is what Netgear need to do if you would like to actually dominate the market rather than whatever it is your doing now (twiddling thumbs ?) * The player has to have the same level of media support as a Sigma Designs powered WDTV Live or PCH A-200 or Realtek 1073DD chipset * DVD/ISO menus are a must, Blu-ray menus are not essential...

using tagtool on a network mapped drive

I found the lack of ability to browse a network drive a real pain as I have transferred all my ripped dvd's to a nas and have now started tagging them. When you hit the browse button you are unable to get to a network drive by default but .... there is a way round this. say you have mapped your nas drive to Y: when you hit the browse button and it prompts you for a folder just enter y:\ in the folder bit and press return and then it browses your NAS drive. you can of course put in more subfolders as well to limit your search e.g. y:\Shared Videos\dvd rips\movies\ This has saved me a lot of copying back and forwards between NAS and pc

Can I use my networked EVA9150 as a backup device?

Hi, The title says it all. I have an EVA9150 (with 500Gb HD, firmware ver 2.4.68 AU) on my wired home network. Everything works fine and I'm very happy with the device which i purchased about 10 months ago (other than the fact that the price dropped markedly not long after I bought it). I'm wondering if I can use the EVA9150 as a backup device from my home computer running Windows Vista Ultimate SP2? I currently use the windows backup/restore software. If anyone can shed light on this I would be very grateful. Many thanks, DLW
