I read the article about testing if it is a network or hardware problem, so I tried the amazon file and tried to play it from my USB stick. Also the recommended test file hangs after a minute and there's no sound.... The article suggests that it is bad hardware. I connected my EVA wired (CAT5) with a gigabit Netgear Wireless Next router and a double disk NAS in raid 0 with 2x 750Gb 7200 rpm harddisks. I installed the latest firmware. Network test on the EVA shows >20Mbps network speed. DVD movies work fine (after disabling upnp it seems that all of the movies have sound again), but HD files won't work I tried: H.264 (mkv container), wmv ac-1. Can someone help me? What should I do --> bring the EVA back for service because it's a hardware problem? I’m not sure if it’s a hardware problem with the EVA, or a compatibility problem with the network storage (or possibly a combination of both). The EVA came with an early firmware version which had difficulty playing a number of video files (mostly .avi). I upgraded the EVA firmware to version 2.0.159 and this resolved the problem for the bulk of video files concerned. A number of these files still cannot be played. I put this down to their unknown quality, although they do play on my pc and laptop with vintage codecs. The problem that concerns me, is that the video files that do play on the EVA, do not do so consistently. Again, these files range in format but are primarily .avi. Following a quick scan to detect new media on the network, the EVA can play most of the video files it detects. However after playing a video file, nothing else in the list of video files can subsequently be played. If another video is to be played, it is necessary to reset the EVA and perform another “quick scan for new media”. This does not... Also, though gone since a complete reset was a play for about 3 mins then stop playing entirely whether it was on internet radio or .mp3. Speaking of Internet Radio it has more than once completely wiped out my radio list and it's associated .xml file. What else, or it does not give me accurate reads anymore from the "Test Network Connection" I have use two indentical NAS and each one reads 1 mbps it used to read as much as 34 mbps. Swapped NAS to make sure it wasn't the NAS and tested the LAN connection going in and it reads 100 mbps, so it's the EVA. I tried both the "Reset to defaults" option and reflashing and still no luck with :20 second pauses between .mp3 song plays. I even swapped out my NAS with an identical one just to make sure it wasn't NAS related and still :20 second pauses. I've seen written a recovery tool that was mentioned in a previous post, am I at that stage? This is the second EVA that has... If you switch to other HDMI input devices when watching a ripped movie from my Netgear NAS via the EVA8000, and then try to return to the EVA it just diaplays a blank screen showing on the TV. You can't power off using the remote. The only way forward is to reboot it. This is real pain. If you're watching a ripped movie via the EVA8000, and you press the Home button to display the menus, where it just displays a small window of the still-playing movie in the top right, - how do you get back to the movie? I can't find any key on the remote to do this. If you select Swedish (or any other language) subtitles and start playing the movie, and then stop it and try to restart from the beginning, it goes back to the menu option after the language one, so you can't change it back to English unless you power off and back on again. Most DVD have a "Menu" button that takes you to the top level menu. Does the EVA remote have one? The EVO seems to be what I need. However, I only need a single source, multizoned AV setup. Ie, a single Evo i can switch the output to different audio and video zones using an HDMI splitter and multizoning Amp. The problem I see is the basic remote control. What I need is a wireless remote with a screen which can browse the AV library so i don’t have to be in the same room as the Evo and TV. The EVO is trying to sell a solution for both Video and Audio, Great....because some of my zones won’t have need for a TV...for me the Pool , BBQ, and chill out areas. But is the Evo really achieving this? The 'old school' remote means to change song, movie, pause (anything!) I need an Evo for every zone AND a TV to make my selections. Expensive for a room with just music. And why I ask...do I need an evo in Zone X when I have an Evo sitting idle in... I have gone thorugh the reset procedure in the manual, Completely disconnected the power and left it for a couple of hours but no change. The system has fallen over on previous YouTude expeditions but on these occasions it powered up again. Is there a memory problem with the EVA8000? I have got PC World to agree to swap it out but I would like to know how to fix this issue or if anyone else has encountered it? A partial solution is to copy the RSS files from the original skin (FlareHD) folder of this new FW into the folder of the custom skins. But for Redalert and FlareXS this cause the lost of small sized caracters. I know it's a lot of work but it would be much appreciated if the authors of these two skins could fixe it. Watched movies, picutures, listned to music: everything fine. I did change the settings (network paths) a few times. Also installed a new skin (EarthbyNight -- very nice). Then I did a restart for the first time in 1 day -- and it hanged at Power up. No connection possible, remote control won't work. No connection via Web interface neither, nor via EVA multimedia configurator on PC. Tried factory reset (power button in front flashed green), tried different connections to TV and AV receiver (hdmi, composite video), unplugged device, no affect. Just hangs at Power Up screen. Anybody any hints how to really reset this device? Do I need to replace the device? Your help is very much appreciated, thanks. In my windows network, I see the USB drive as Windows share ( \\fritz.box\USBDISK-0-1 ) (IP does not make any difference) as well as MediaServer "AVM FRITZ!Musikbox" (as below).
