I've got two external hdd's attached to my Windows XP Pro PC, and they both show up as folders to scan, but then when I go to Network test (which tests the speed), one of them shows up as N/A, and of course its contents don't show up. I've checked the permissions, it all seems fine. I've also updated the firmware. Any thoughts very welcome! robert

Hi, I just got the EVA8000. Before I bought this I had done my reserch and had found the article on using the Mac OS X 10.4 with EVA8000 ( http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101683.asp). After getting the the EVA8000, I downloaded the MAC SW from this webpage and I did exactly what the article said but I am not able to see any of my media on my MAC. I am not sure what I did wrong . The MAC entertainer client seems to be able to talk to the EVA8000, but the shares dont seem to work. Has anyone else here been successfull in hooking up the EVA8000 to a MAC ? Any help is appretiated. Thanks Ajith

I've been using the EVA8000 for several months now and (after a month of setup issues) now have a usable system for accessing my library of videos, photos and music from my upstairs network. Now I have been able to reliably play all of the above, access YouTube, weather, and the PC itself (although only having a standard def TV makes readability of the screen difficult and accessing email a near impossibility (too bad no provision for zooming in on the desktop for better readability). The one feature that I haven't been able to get functional is accessing my media from my laptop when I am on the road (similar to how Slingboxes work). I can access them when the laptop is connected to my local network, but if I check the IP addr of my router (as it is viewed from internet) and use that to configure Home View in DEW it says that it is unable to find a Digital Entertainer at this address. Does anybody have any idea on how to do this or what I am doing wrong? When I travel to Germany, having access to my home library is essential, since the only program I...

Having set-up the EVA I would like to use it's USB port to access the stored files on my Humax PVR. I have connected a PC to the Humax via USB before and can read the files. Now the PC has moved elsewhere in the house and has been replaced by the EVA in the living room. Windows Explorer and will not "see" the EVA as a drive or via "My Network Places". Does anyone know if it is possible to see the EVA USB port remotely? Any advice gratefully received. Logan

Thinking about buying an Eva

Hi all I am thinking about buying one of these devices but I wanted to get a little info first Here is my current setup Pinnacle Showcenter connected to pc over wireless nslu2 nas device storing media in this current set up I have to have the PC on all the time, as this runs the web server and the database for the media. I have played around with running swiss center directly off my nas device but this hasn't worked very well so I have a few questions 1) it says in the documentation that a pc is needed, does this pc run the media databse or is this stored on the eva device? i.e do I have to have a pc always connected for Eva to work 2) can the eva run just by directly streaming from a nas device? I am hoping I can just link the eva to my nas device and stream off there but I need this to be confirmed before i buy one Cheers all Mike

My EVA8000 reboots when rescanning

After 24h ownership of this product, I have still not tracked down a few errors... 1) The eva8000 absolutely refuses to make an inventory of a shared library on my PC. There are a few hundred media files there but, no... They just aren't possible to see. Is there a hard limit on how many shared folders the eva8000 can keep track of? 2) When rescanning for new media, the eva8000 reboots immediately. Damned irritating. Does anyone have any solutions for this? Best Regards, /HerrBerg

Well, I've been playing with my EVA8000 for about a week and it's just one of those gadgets that I really like and think is totally cool, but it's missing some major features - all of which have to do with CONTENT !!! This box would be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better if I could browse through RSS feeds (text/audio/video podcasts) and dynamically build a library of content that could be organized by keyword or category. Sort of a combination of iTunes Music Store and EVA interface. Part of my problem with podcasts is that I don't like having to wait for the download in iTunes and I HATE watching streaming video (with all the pixels and hiccups). I added about 30+ RSS feeds to EVA and only 4 actually worked. About half couldn't access the video content (no play button) or it was an incompatible version of the MOV file type. (I will post good RSS feeds to my blog when I create it...probably in August.) To make the EVA an absolute homerun I would add an internal hard drive and some sort of browser/subscription service so I could select and organize my favorite RSS feeds and let my EVA box...
