Changes in 4.0 Community Platform Release

There are a few updates that have been rolled out with the newest release of our community platform, and I'd like to let you know how to take advantage of them! First of all, you may have seen in the last release that you now have the ability to add your country's flag to your profile. Now, if you'd like to see where everyone else on the site is posting from, you can click on the flag next to anyone's profile. This will bring you to a screen where you can see the flags for all users. Find people who are in your same country or area! You can see an example below. The second change involves the download area of the site. In a previous release, you gained the ability to post multiple discussions to a download. Now, by clicking on the "subscribe to discussions" link within each download, you'll get a notification when new discussions are posted to that download. We'd love to hear your feedback, as always. Keep on enjoying the site! Pete

In our recent upgrade to our platform, we've introduced some new features, and I'd like to introduce you to how they work. Rating Content Items First, we've added the ability to rate other content on the site, such as individual forum threads. You'll also be able to see average user ratings for each content item. Go right ahead and start rating your favorite content items, and help other community members find the best stuff! Update And Personalize Your Profile Second, we've upgraded the profile screen, and added the availability of some great custom options. Here's what you'll now be able to do: Add your Twitter username Add your YouTube ID Add your Flickr account All of these will be visible when other community members view your profile. In addition, you'll also be able to select the country you live in, and your country's flag will be proudly displayed next to your avatar! Groups We've also enhanced the Groups section of the site. First, you'll now see a sidebar on the right hand side of your screen, where you can access "My Groups," the groups that you are subscribed to, with one easy click. You can also see all members in...

Important: April Site Updates and Improvements

Greetings, As many of you have seen, MyDigitalEntertainer has undergone several updates and improvements over the last few months. As we continue to evolve this innovative and original approach to our community software platform, we hope you find many of the changes and enhancements enjoyable and useful. I would also like to say that as we continue to try new ideas, we really value feedback from you, our users. Not all of the changes we've made over the last year have made people do cartwheels and backflips out of pure joy, but we always have our ears perked up to hear your thoughts and make this community work exactly how you want. The vast majority of changes I'll talk about below are inspired by the feedback we've gotten, so please keep those suggestions and calls for improvements coming. So without further adieu, let's get to the updates! This time it's all about the forums and comments, and I (personally) think you'll all love what's new. Single Thread, Single Topic First the biggest change of all... After much feedback, the concept of multi-dimensional forum threads is going away, meaning that threads will no longer be multi-tagged to forum topics. The concept...

I cannot view puchased full owned WMV Media (VOD) on the EVA 8000. Even after I full scan my PC, the WMV file will not show on the list of videos. I guess the encryption of the file that allows it to play on the WMP 11.0 is not active on the EVA 8000, or else it is because the files are too big. Is there a work around?

So, Has anyone tried to skin thier EVA? Apparently you now have the ability to do so. If you are not familiar with what a skin is, it's basically changing the look of the images and background of what you see in the menus and so forth. So for example you could change the color of the background to a basic black, purple or put up some kind of cool looking skin like this: I have been looking into it a bit, and it's not that hard. But am wondering if anyone here has done this yet.

Let me start by saying, given my previous satisfaction with Netgears Networking products, to be let down so much by the offerings of the EVA8000HD. Slow Video Playback Performance when browsing through menu's. Slow Menu Speeds. Updates unable to be applied from multiple USB devices. Had to be applied online. A HD Device outputting a default of 4 x 3??? With no option to set TV Ratio under advanced settings. Come on Netgear. 1.85:1 DVD Files not filling the screen when set to 16 x 9 Pan & Scan / Letterbox in any modes. The lack of knowledge of Netgears Technical support staff regarding this component. (This may have something to do with the fact that these are off-shore call centres) And More... For netgear to release such an apparently immature and untested product to the market with the hope of fixing problems later with the release of software updates is a foolish move and misconceived ideal that customers will patiently await patches to fix issues and live with the problems at hand. It seems that this site is either highly moderated by Netgear staff, or am i alone in having these problems.

Are there any features you think would greatly improve your EVA experience? List your top suggestions, and let's see how many of us would like to see the same things added to the EVA in future software, or hardware, developments. Here are a couple of mine to start off with: 1. Make it work with the SlingBox ! Wouldn't that be awesome?! 2. I'd like to see some of the configuration options made more intuitive so that customizing my file browsing experience is easier. 3. A more powerful remote control that I can program to use with the rest of my home theater components, like my TiVo.

So, pretty much everyone knows by now that I watch vids on my EVA8000 while working out. This is my favorite way to walk through morning-by-morning season after season of my favorite shows. One tiny upgrade that would absolutely improve this experience is if the digital entertainer remembered where I left off. Every morning, when I hop the treadmill, turn on my TV, and get ready to watch something, the NDE comes back from sleep / screen saver mode to the main menu. I then have to click about 20 times to browse through my video to get to my show. This was the path this morning... TV / Video -> Recorded -> Server -> Media -> Smallville -> Season 6 -> the next episode Actually, it even took me a few extra clicks, because I forgot for a second (silly me!) that I was watching Smallville instead of Stargate Atlantis (just switched last week). Anyway the unit could be upgraded (or configured somehow) to have been sitting at the "Season 6" episode list when it woke up?

When browsing folders containing my content using the EVA8000, I notice that I still have to click a child folder to open it even when it's the only selection. For instance, my vids are all rooted at the following network share... \\server\media\video\... The only share I've exposed on my server to the digital entertainer is the "media" share, so when I browse, I should not have to explicitly click "media". It should jump in there for me, because that's the only folder to select. This would be a great time-saving feature, since I browse like that all the time.

I admit it: I'm a hard-core TiVo lover. I've got a new HD TV in my bedroom, and I'm sick of having to be tied down to a particular time and channel just to watch the few things I can't download to my PC in HD-goodness. So I'm actually pretty psyched over the new TiVo HD (or, as some have been calling it, TiVo Lite). At $300, TiVo HD is definitely on my short-list of cool toys! There was no way I was going to fork over $400-700 on one, but at least this time it's affordable. Plus, this one's got a better processor in it than the Series 3 does. Anyone else going to bite the bullet on this one? If you do, I suggest picking it up from DVRupgrade . I trust their site, plus Lou and the guys give great support. Anyone know if I can use my Digital Entertainer EVA8000 with a TiVo? There's got to be a way!
