Seems the file is loaded in the EVA and can see the bar but there is no picture and only sound four 2-3 seconds.

Hi there! First, I'd like to say hello to the community - I'm german, living in Switzerland. My configuration: EVA8000 connected wired to router d-link DI-524 Qnap TS-109 II pro connected also wired to DI-524 DVB-Set-Top-Box with Linux (called dbox, similar to dreambox) also connected wired to DI-524 The DVB-Set-Top-Box uses NFS which is also supported by the Qnap TS-109. My problem: Recorded video will be scanned from EVA8000 well and showed up. Trying to play these .TS-files will only show video but no sound! I've recognized that streams with only mpg-audio are playing fine with audio also. Recorded video which contains also ac3 streams inside have this above mentioned bug (no sound). What can I do? Do I have to set special user rights to the folder where the recorded video is located? Sounds not very senseful, because mpeg audio videos plays and sounds well. If I run the video through an audio/video processing tool, called projectX (great for dvb-streams), and play afterwards then with EVA8000 sound is present! Does this mean my DVB-Set-Top-Box doesn't record the stream properly or more likely the tv station broadcast a non-conform dvb-stream? It's a really pitty - because video playback with the...

Hi people, After receiving an email from a user on another thread, and also mentioning this topic in these particular forums, I have now decided to start a thread on this. Those of you who are running the EVA8000 from a Windows Home Server may have come across the problem of having to log into the Server every time you need to run the DEW software. I have listed below, instructions (sort of) on how to install your DEW software as a Service, which runs automatically in the background on powering up your Home Server. Right, here we go. You will need the following two applications. Windows Server 2002 Resource Kit Tools - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en Any Service Installer - http://forum.wegotserved.co.uk/index...ads&showfile=7 as mentioned in previous link. YOU WILL NEED TO REGISTER AND LOG-IN WITH `WE GOT SERVED` TO DOWNLOAD FILES , this takes only seconds. Its best if you copy both applications over to your Server first. I copied them to the Software shares Folder, then dragged them onto the Server desktop. Now, for this to work, simply install the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools. I logged onto my Windows Home Server using the Remote Desktop Connection, then installed it from...

Evening all, Right, I`ve been having some grief with a new problem on my EVA8000 for a couple of weeks. It is, basically, when I power it up, or start it up, it does not start start up. When I turn it on at the mains, it appears dead, with nothing on the screen. I know it is getting power and doing something because the connection light on my Network switch and Router lights up. The LED on the front of the EVA8000, does nothing. If I hold in and release the EVA8000 front button, it seems to reset the unit, as the Switch and Router light goes off, then comes on again, although there is no action from the EVA8000 itself. I have to power it down and up again a number of times, sometimes I can be doing this for 10-15 minutes, then it might decide to start up. I am presently trying out Firmware 2.1.81 Beta, as I was experiencing the same problem with Firmware 2.1.66 Public Release. I have also used the Recovery Tool after the unit bombed out after a Firmware upgrade. This is most annoying and as with the other crashes and hangs, I`m...

My EVA 8000 is connected with the reciever Harman/Kardon 245 through optical cable connection. The problem is, that the reciever doesn´t recognize the multichannel audio sound ( p.e. AC-3 ). I did some test : I played the movie from the hard disc on EVA, the movie offered 5.1 sound, but on the receiver was only stereo sound from EVA available. Then I burned the same movie on DVD and played on DVD player - 5.1 sound worked. It means the movie files content 5.1 sound, but eva cannot play it. Can anybody help me to force EVA play 5.1 sound ?, or eva don´t have this skill ? thx Pulkas

Hi all, Right, I`ve seen to come across another annoying problem with NetGear`s dodgy software. The TAG TOOL. I have edited a number of AVI files which I ripped from DVD`s. I have installed the latest version of the DEW software, I think it`s the Beta version. Where does it state which version it is? NetGear needs to sort out their software NOW, it`s by no way, user friendly. Anyway, the problem I am having is this. When I tag a file, I use the `ALWAYS SAVE .TAG FILE` option to save a seperate file, so our XBOX 360 can still read the files. When I open the TAG TOOL and bring up the AVI files, or even the .TAG files, they are empty, blanked out, as if there is no information stored. This is annoying as there dosn`t seem any way to edit TAGs, without re-entering all of the information. And again, when the AVI or TAG file is opened in the TAG TOOL, they appear empty again. The odd one or two show some of the information, but not all. None appear to show the saved image. When I use `VIEW ARTWORK` listing option on the EV8000, the...

I have ripped some DVDs to HD, and they are stored as Audi_TS and Video_TS directories. I want to Tag these, and I'd also like to store them as just one file instead of multiple files in these 2 folders. I want to preserve the DVD structure/menus/subtitles, and the quality of the movies. I've tried converting to ISO, and the Tag tool doesn't default to this, you have to manually change it, so it finds these files. However when you do this it appears to work. But is there a better format that is more compatible with the Tag tool (that preserves the DVD structure/menus/subtitles), or is there a newer version of the Tag Tool (mine says version 1.0 2006)? Also, can you use the Tag tool to tag audio files? I want it to find the album art and to name the tracks (like Window media Player does). Reply Reply with quote

By brute force (and a Phillips Pronto TSU9600), I've discovered a "discrete ON" for the EVA8000 power. The Pronto hex sequence is: <pre> 5000 0000 0000 0001 0017 0027 </pre> But I could NOT fins a discrete OFF!! The power toggle is <pre> 5000 0000 0000 0001 0017 0043 </pre> I can probably get by with a code that sets power to a known state, and one that toggles it from there, but a real off would be nice. But when I try to browse folders, although I can see the top-level server, only 3 sub-folders are shown - SharedDocs ane 2 ithers. I guess I'll have to start from scratch. What's the best method for folder sharing - the Digital Ententainer software, or native windows folder sharing? And can these two clash if used simultaneously? rob

Now it seems everytime I start up the eva it says that I have no files so have to re-scan everytime I want to watch something which is slow and irritating sa you can imagine. I assume it could be a few things: - I am connecting wirelessly, so if I switch my router off at night, would this affect it? - I also turn my laptop off which is the computer I am using with the EVA - Should I leave the EVA on all night? - Is it possible that my firewall is blocking the EVA from writing to it's library file? - Should I turn off auto scan every night at 1am as my laptop is usually off at this time For any suggestions!

Hi people, Right, after finally converting all my DVD collection to AVI`s, I have now hit a problem. My collection of over 350 DVD movies/tv shows were ripped to AVI: - MPEG 4 - 15000 kbps (DivX, XviD) with Audio: MP3 - 192kbps. Now, I ripped to this format as this seemed to be the only file type the XBox 360 could play over a network. It can however, play other file typed from disc. The problem is, since I tagged all the AVI`s for use on the Netgear EVA8000, they are no longer playable on the XBox 360. Even removing the tag information still leaves the AVI`s unplayable. Has anyone else experienced this? This is a serious downer for me, as I originally ripped the DVD`s to the Home Server so that our young boy could watch them on his TV without trashing my DVD collection. Now they are unplayable, except on the Netgear EVA8000. Any comments people? I look forward to hearing from you on this. Regards Neil.

I'm running Ubuntu on my laptop with virtual box. I have a vbox running xp which was what I first attempted to communicate with. My wife has an XP SP 3 laptop which also cannot communicate with our EVA. Please help. Also, what's the point of the USB ports if I can't hook up media directly to it? some what disappointed that I need to have my computer up running. to share a network device in order to use this box...it would cheaper for me to have a TV out card. I was expecting to be able to hook my external directly to the EVA and play media without a computer. I see on netgear's site that it supports torrents but for the life of me I can't figure out how... at this point I'd ratherreturn the box and get mythtv or geexbox going. please help.

Hi people, I`m a new member as of yesterday. I purchased my EVA8000 last week. I have ripped my entire DVD collection to my home built Windows Home Server. I have at present around 350 movies / tv series all from original DVD ripped to AVI / DIVX as this seems to be the only format the XBox 360 can stream across a wired Network. It can of course play other formats, but it appear`s only from a DVD, not across a Network. I may be wrong, but only AVI`s play. Anyway, like everyone I use the Netgear DE softwares Tag Tool to tag the AVI`s with info. The thing is, there are a few AVI`s which won`t allow me to tag them. I receive the following error - Failed To Save Changes To This File - Not Implemented. Now, the AVI`s are Titanic, Green Mile and King Kong. Although files can be given any name, these are the files I am having problems with so far, as I haven`t finished tagging them all. But, what I have noticed is that so far, these are the only files which go over the 2gb size. Has anyone else come across this?...

I had purchased an EVA8000 and set it up with minimal problems, as it was just replacing a buffalo tech system that was junk. I updated the firmware to 2.0.159 which seems to be the latest and everything is working fine. I then purchased another EVA8000 and set it up and upgraded the firmware, however when entering the zip code to recieve weather data, it came back with a message "invalid zip". The zip was not invalid (19510) as this was what the other box was using. I skipped the step and proceeded to complete the setup of the new system. Everything worked fine, except when accessing youtube. It went into a reboot loop and I performed the firmware recovery with no problem. Then I went into advanced setting and was able to set the zipcode, however, the weather box on the main page does not show up ON EITHER MACHINE!! If I just try to access weather info from the main menu, it come back with a message, "unabel to display weather data" What could possibly be...

I tried to play different of HD video files on my EVA, but all just work fine for a minute en and hang or stutter. I read the article about testing if it is a network or hardware problem, so I tried the amazon file and tried to play it from my USB stick. Also the recommended test file hangs after a minute and there's no sound.... The article suggests that it is bad hardware. I connected my EVA wired (CAT5) with a gigabit Netgear Wireless Next router and a double disk NAS in raid 0 with 2x 750Gb 7200 rpm harddisks. I installed the latest firmware. Network test on the EVA shows >20Mbps network speed. DVD movies work fine (after disabling upnp it seems that all of the movies have sound again), but HD files won't work I tried: H.264 (mkv container), wmv ac-1. Can someone help me? What should I do --> bring the EVA back for service because it's a hardware problem? (according to the article the amazon file should work fine from USB, and if not, it can be a hardware problem) Thanks

Inconsistent video file replay.

Hello folks, I’m having a curious problem with my EVA8000 installation. I’m not sure if it’s a hardware problem with the EVA, or a compatibility problem with the network storage (or possibly a combination of both). The EVA came with an early firmware version which had difficulty playing a number of video files (mostly .avi). I upgraded the EVA firmware to version 2.0.159 and this resolved the problem for the bulk of video files concerned. A number of these files still cannot be played. I put this down to their unknown quality, although they do play on my pc and laptop with vintage codecs. The problem that concerns me, is that the video files that do play on the EVA, do not do so consistently. Again, these files range in format but are primarily .avi. Following a quick scan to detect new media on the network, the EVA can play most of the video files it detects.
What format is best for Tagging?

I'm about to use the Tag tool for the first time, and read in the manual (someone has to read it!) that only 4 file formats are supported, WMV, AVI, FLAC, ID3. Which of these gives the best quality and preserves DVD menus. Are there any other formats that Tagging works with?
