Powering up, Please wait ......

After a longish session (4 hours) of browsing and playing YouTube content the system fell over and will not now power up. I have gone thorugh the reset procedure in the manual, Completely disconnected the power and left it for a couple of hours but no change. The system has fallen over on previous YouTude expeditions but on these occasions it powered up again. Is there a memory problem with the EVA8000? I have got PC World to agree to swap it out but I would like to know how to fix this issue or if anyone else has encountered it?

Thanks

John

I'm not exactly sure what your problem is with the unit, it could potentially be a memory issue, but I would think that a restart/power cycle like you have tried would solve that problem.

Do you know if the unit was overheating? pardizzone mentions heat-related issues in this troubleshooting article. Again, I'm not sure if that's your problem, but it's one other thing to consider. If anyone else has any input, I'd love to see this problem solved!

Thanks for that Pete. I don't believe it was over heated - from an external perpsective. It is sited on a glass surface in a well ventilated position with nothing on top of it. I suppose an internal component may have got hot but no way of telling. I've raised a support request with Netgear but, to date, I haven't been very impressed with their support.

The flash may have corrupted which would cause that symptom. Depending on what firmware version you were running, you could use the recovery tool that is posted at the Netgear support forums in the EVA8000 Beta forum. You just need to be running the latest public release to use it.

Thanks for your help. I was on the latest firmware release so I will look that up. Netgear support have advised me to deploy the YouTube hot fix at http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/d103215.asp which I will do once I can get the thing to actually power up - a detail they seem to have overlooked. Right now I'm thinking that I will take up PC World's offer of a new box and then delopy the YouTube fix to try and prevent it happening again. Whether, or not, it was the problems with YoTube that actually caused the corruption we shall probably never know.

To repair the unit, you will need to use the recovery tool if you don't get it replaced from PC World. Either way, once you have a working unit, do not apply the hotfix they are suggesting. Just make sure your running the latest public firmware and Digital Entertainer for Windows (DEW) software from the EVA Support page. I believe the fix is incorporated into the latest DEW.

The repiar tool di it thank you. But what a todo! Methinks they must get a lot of problems if they have such a well documented recovery process?
