Weather Data missing and unavailable

Hi, I am having an unusual problem, and after searching the forums, I decided to post this, as my problem seems unique.

I had purchased an EVA8000 and set it up with minimal problems, as it was just replacing a buffalo tech system that was junk. I updated the firmware to 2.0.159 which seems to be the latest and everything is working fine.

I then purchased another EVA8000 and set it up and upgraded the firmware, however when entering the zip code to recieve weather data, it came back with a message "invalid zip".

The zip was not invalid (19510) as this was what the other box was using. I skipped the step and proceeded to complete the setup of the new system. Everything worked fine, except when accessing youtube. It went into a reboot loop and I performed the firmware recovery with no problem.

Then I went into advanced setting and was able to set the zipcode, however, the weather box on the main page does not show up ON EITHER MACHINE!!

If I just try to access weather info from the main menu, it come back with a message, "unabel to display weather data"

What could possibly be wrong?

Any help would be great!

Matt

Are you still having this issue? I just hooked my EVA back up and the weather is showing for both my zip and the one you posted. If you are still having an issue, I would try resetting the unit to defaults under the Supervisor menu. This will clear out all data and make you step through the setup wizard again.

Hi all,

Matt, I only joined the Site last night and this was actually one of my moans.

I only purchased my EVA8000 a week ago, and like everyone else I updated the firmware from 1.2.20 to 2.0.159 as soon as I turned it on.

For a few days the weather info seemed fine but then it suddenly stopped showing.

I never thought to try the Reset Factory Defaults, but what I did was download and save the original firmware to a USB key, downdate the firmware from the USB key using the EVA8000 update feature, then start a over the Net update to the latest version again. This seems to take a while and is probably the hard way but it seems to have worked, my weather is showing once again.

If it bombs out again, I`ll try the Factory Defaults settings.

Hope this helps.

The weather data started working again, since I posted, then stopped yesterday.
It seems that it will work on one of my units, not show on the other then stop working on both. Weird.

Does anyone know how it collects the weather data?

By the way overlooking the quirks, this is a great system, I may buy a third unit. The follow me feature is cool. When I want to watch the news and my child is watching a video, I just press the follow me button to sent the vid to our game room and she turns the tv on and resumes watching it. Then I can watch regualar tv without a problem.
Two of my friends have seem them and have purchased them.

It depends on where you are (US, UK etc) as to where it pulls the data from. The outages could be caused by the server being down or refusing connections because they are overloaded (they grab the data from public servers I believe).

Hi again,

Shortly following my post to you on this subject, my Weather stopped showing again.

I couldn`t be bothered to try anything, but the next day it appeared once again when I turned on my unit. Strange, but maybe it is a problem with the Weather servers, wherever they are. I think if it was a fault with the unit it probably wouldn`t work at all.

I do agree with you that this unit is a great system when it works. We can only hope the quirks/bugs are fixed soon. The thing is, if the unit did everything it should without causing us grief then there wouldn`t be any need for Forums such as this, which is quite sad really.

Still, we shall see what happens next.
