mp4 (avc1 ?) format supported for EVA8000 for video ?

Hi Gurus,

I have a good collection of mp4 videos. All these videos have been created on  a Apple Mac platform & i believe (not sure) that they are in a avc1 format within the mp4 category.

I have been researching the EVA8000HD box in order to play this collection of mine & want to make sure if this format will be supported before i go ahead & buy this.

Would greatly appreciate if anyone on this forum can enlighten me on this ........

Thanks,

I don't have any mp4 files with avc1 to try so i can't say for sure if they will play or not. There are many variables that would cause it to not play, or play. If you can run one through Mediainfo (google it), change the view to text and copy/paste the output here we will be able to see the exact codec/bitrate/etc that it uses.

Well i couldnt wait ..so i went ahead & bought the EVA8000. Everything went fine except for the mp4's :(.

When i try to play these vdos ...my EVA just reboots ..for each of these videos :((
These have been created using the software "handbreak" on a mac laptop. I really want to be able to play this collection of mine. These vdos play well though on my windows PC using VLC media player.

I'll try to use this mediainfo software & copy-paste the info here.

Desperately want to fix this issue ...

Thanks for all ur help - much appreciated !

Hi

I just joined so I could give you a quick reply from a very happy eva8000 owner.

Firstly my machine uses the latest firmware from netgears beta site, with no issues.

I play avchd videos with the following settings. I have converted them from footage from my sony HDR-cx6 using nero vision .

Settings were export as file :avc (avchd compatible) bit rate 12,000Kbps, two pass render. The results are excellent

Here is the info from the mediainfo you wanted.

Hope it all goes well for you.

p.s. the I manually change the file extension from *.mp4 to *.ts after rendering is complete. I also use a wired LAN, I gave up on wireless connections some years back, except for use on the laptop.
I have to admit I use iso files for my DVDs now, but have test played mp4 files (nero digital)that I had ripped for my short lived Kiss1600 with no problems, although these were only 6Mbps

Have just watched a one hour video processed using above settings except for the stream is now at 15Mbps (same data rate as the camcorder). Still giving me a perfect picture. Intrestingly the stream needs to be processed through nero vision first to play well at 15Mbps. Unmodified files from the cam corder end up rebuffering every few seconds.

AVC1 is Apple QuickTime. It's popular as a flash media file with either .mp4 or .gif extension. Why .gif? I've no clue. Websites such as Imeem use the .gif extension for their flash media file (avc1/mp4a). It's still an .mp4 file and works with either extension.

Alot of people like myself don't like changing file formats unless we want to mess with or edit the video/audio, or whatever for the heck of it. hehe. I use Real Alternative Lite and K-Lite Codec Pack Full on windows. Everyone wishes there was a Mac version cause it supports thousands of formats both old and new, common and uncommon video/audio formats through any player of your choice without any conflicts. K-Lite also removes and/or fixes broken codecs and is completely customizable. Keeping this short.

Mac users seem to like the Perian codec package. It doesn't have as much codec/filter supports as Real Alternative & K-Lite (combination), but it should be fine for the current popular formats without having to convert any thing.

--------------------------------------------------

http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/22923/perian

Perian enables QuickTime application support for additional media types:
AVI, FLV, and MKV file formats
MS-MPEG4 v1 & v2, DivX, 3ivx, H.264, FLV/Sorenson Spark, FSV1, VP6, H263i, VP3, HuffYUV, FFVHuff, MPEG1 & MPEG2 Video, Fraps, Windows Media Audio v1 & v2, Flash ADPCM, Xiph Vorbis (in Matroska), and MPEG Layer II Audio
AVI support for: AAC, AC3 Audio, H.264, MPEG4, and VBR MP3
Subtitle support for SSA/ASS and SRT

I hope this is useful. :)
--------------------------------------------------

Will have to search around for a Real Player codecs for MAC or Quicktime, since those formats are also popular (.ra .rpm, .rm .ram .rmvb, .rt, .rp, etcetera), in addition to other codecs and filters that Perian currently doesn't support.

Have fun. :)

me_range=16 could be your problem.

PS3 likes a max me_range of 12, so i would imagine the EVA would be the same. But given its only Baseline@L3.0 profile, i would of still expected it to work.
