Bittorrent Questions

I recently bought a NAS DUO to supplement my EVA8000.  I was never able to get the Bittorrent videos to work properly and I thought this might help.

I still can't get the Bittorrent downloads to work.

When they are downloaded to the DUO the EVA can "see" them as they show up during the scan.  After the scan is complete however they do not show up on the list of videos that can be played.

In a related issue I have not been able to determine when you would be able to "liscence" the video file.  If you download a bittorrent file to the computer and watch it on the computer you will be prompted to liscence the video to watch on the computer.  If you download the file to the DUO to stream to the EVA and watch on TV when will you be prompted to liscence the file?

Anyone who has worked through these issues please help! (especially if you have the same setup)

You need to use a pc with Windows Media Player 11 to serve the protected content to the EVA. The file can be stored on your NAS but it will only play on the EVA when streamed from the pc. See my guide on viewing protected content:

I have a separate question here - I have also been using a ReadyNAS Duo with my EVA, but haven't really given the BitTorrent app a run yet.

Do you like the BitTorrent app? Has it worked well for you in terms of the interface, download speed, etc?

Peter

I would be interested to hear what results you get when you attempt to use the two together.

I have had problems with the bittorrent app.  I was actually going to post that issue separately but here goes...

I can get the bittorrent manager to download one file.  The download happens relatively quickly.  This is especially true when downloaded directly to the DUO.  However once the first download happens none of the other torrents will download.  I have called tech support twice and was supposed to get a call back.  I haven't heard back yet.

I will give your suggestions a try.  As I said in my posting I was never able to get the files to be recognized by the EVA 8000.  Hopefully this works.

But, I was under the impression that the DUO is supposed to act as a media server.  Do you have the DUO as well?

I can say that I've had really great luck with the two interacting together. I don't use it to stream music or pictures, only video for the moment, but so far it has worked fantastically well. I would recommend connecting the EVA directly to the network rather than running it wireless for heavy video use. I mostly play back DivX encoded AVI files.

Overall, I have been very happy with the streaming video from the ReadyNAS Duo and use it pretty frequently now.

There's also a good article here on how to do this:

I don't have a DUO myself but have read about it. As far as recognizing the files, if you set it up to read the protected (DRM) files from a WMP11 machine, they will play after authorizing the playback once on the WMP11 machine itself. If they are not copy protected in any way, they should show up from a normal SMB share.
